Southside shopping center adds pet megastore

Franklin Street and shopping center owner DSC Properties Inc. announce Pet Supermarket has signed a 10-year lease for a 6,700-square-foot store at the Landmark Station shopping center in Jacksonville.

A 25,900-square-foot shopping center along Atlantic Boulevard has added Pet Supermarket as a tenant, according to Franklin Street.

The shopping center owned by DSC Properties Inc. was built in the mid-1990s but recently renovated and has an additional 5,000 square feet of retail space available.

Whitney Kantor, a director of retail leasing at Franklin Street, said the 10-year lease for the 6,700-square-foot space is indicative of a growing pet care market.

“Pet owners desire easily accessible and convenient pet stores in their neighborhoods. Landmark Station is an ideal location offering Pet Supermarket excellent visibility and presence in the market along with ease of access,” she said.

Pet Supermarket has 10 other area stores, but the location at 12740 Atlantic Blvd., but this location is the first for the chain east of Interstate 295. There are 165 Pet Supermarkets in the southeast, according to a news release.

Dicky Smith of DSC Properties Inc. said the tenant will increase foot traffic at an already busy shopping center.

“We continue to collaborate on the retail mix that will best benefit customers and our existing retailers,” he said.

The 5,000-square feet that’s available is in blocks of 1,300 square feet, 1,700 square feet and 2,280 square feet. Other retailers in the shopping center include T-Mobile, Julies Jewelry, Nu Nails and Epik Burger.
