Since the 1980s, many companies have taken steps to make working easier on mothers and fathers, including extending time of maternity and paternity leave, allowing telecommuting and designating private lactation spaces in the office. But there are some challenges only women face, and these often aren’t as easy to remedy.
“The biggest challenge these days for me is more about whether I’m making the right choices for my family – am I still aligned with what I believe?” said Monetha Cobb, Managing Director for Franklin Street Real Estate Services. “Even though socially we’re more accepting of moms in the workplace and taking on a greater role … I still don’t think we’re there yet. I still think there are a lot of societal pressures.”
