A new retail development featuring both a Waffle House and a Dunkin’ Donuts marketed by Franklin Street Real Estate Services is planned at the corner of Sixes Road and Ridge Road in Canton, GA — right outside my neighborhood!
Franklin Street representative Justin Berryman shared:
“We are marketing the strip center on the lower parcel facing Ridge Road for a sit down, family atmosphere restaurant with roof top patio/seating while the top parcel strip (facing the intersection of Sixes/Ridge Rd) more of the usual retail concepts (think high end nail salon/spa, new age fitness concept like yoga/pilates/Orangetheory, etc, boutiques, and QSR’s).”
The Dahlhauser Group is the owner and developer of the property, and Berryman represents the company on leasing and marketing the spaces to tenants. Here’s the PDF showing that the franchises are listed as tenants.
They have just started marketing the property and so far have received strong interest from tenants that want to be in the area such as Waffle House and Dunkin’ Donuts. They anticipate breaking ground fall of ’17 with delivery late spring ’18. These dates are fluid and they could break ground sooner if enough tenants have committed in the next couple months.
Residents of the area are invited to a general information meeting. The meeting has been announced through postings on Nextdoor sites and local community Facebook pages:
“The Sixes Community Coalition would like to notify you of the Developer’s Public Information Meeting for the Commercial development at Sixes and Ridge Road. The Dalhauser Group purchased the 5 acres at Sixes and Ridge (beside Starbucks). They are planning on building to fit retail, restaurants and other. Right now, they are looking at Waffle House and Dunkin’ Donuts. NOTE: This development is allowed in the current TND Zoning. The Developer has graciously agreed to hold a Public Information Meeting even though it is not required. However, they would like input from the Community.”
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 21st, at 6.30 – 8.30 PM at the Bridgemill Fire Station Community Room, 9550 Bells Ferry Road, Canton, GA 30114.
As expected, the community has different views on what types of restaurants and retail should be in their backyard. Recently in downtown Woodstock, a Waffle House was stopped from being developed, which made room for an independent wine bar to build. On the public comment boards, people have expressed the desire for healthier options to be built in the area.
Whether public opinion can sway the developers to make when the site is already zoned for this type of business, time will tell. I can say, my high school children would worship a Waffle House close by, but would have been just as happy if it were located at the top of Sixes Road near the interstate. Personally, I am excited about the idea of a restaurant with a rooftop!
