A massive outdoor sporting goods store is about to open its largest Georgia store in Acworth.

Cabela’s Inc. plans to open the 100,000-square-foot store on Aug. 21, but Atlanta Business Chronicle got a sneak peek. Slideshow on the right.

The store is in the Cherokee Village development at Highway 92 and Interstate-75. It will employ about 200 people.

It will be Sidney, Neb.-based Cabela’s (NYSE: CAB) second location in Georgia. A 42,000-square-foot store opened in March in Augusta.

According to the company, the Acworth store was built in the “next-generation layout, designed to surround customers in an outdoor-like experience with museum-quality wildlife displays.”

In addition to thousands of hunting, fishing and camping products, it will include a large mountain replica, gun library, bargain cave, boat shop, indoor archery range and fudge shop.

In April 2012, Atlanta Business Chroniclefirst reported Cabela’s was scouting the Southeast, and especially Georgia, when the company said the “constraints were off” its expansion into new markets.

Last July, the retailer announced plans to open its first two Georgia stores.
This February, a third Georgia store was announced.

Emil Gullia and Monetha Cobb with Franklin Street of Atlanta represented Cabela’s in its local site selection.

Cabela’s operates 58 stores across North America with plans to open an additional 19 over the next two years. Download PDF
