Exclusive: Former JLL directors land at Tampa commercial real estate firm

Chris Butler and Chad Rupp have joined Franklin Street as managing directors for the office and industrial services group with a focus on Central Florida.

Two Tampa real estate veterans who suddenly departed the Central Florida top posts at JLL earlier this year have landed at another firm.

Chris Butler and Chad Rupp have joined Franklin Street as managing directors for the office and industrial services group with a focus on Central Florida, Franklin Street said Tuesday.

Butler and Rupp abruptly left JLL in August, in a move so sudden it shocked the commercial real estate community.

“We’re joining at a time when the office and industrial sectors are making a big comeback in Florida,” Rupp said in a written statement. “And while our industry continues to experience consolidation of the larger real estate firms, we anticipate the opportunity for some great talent to become available to recruit to Franklin Street and build a strong team here in Florida.”

The two have been partners for more than a decade, first pairing up at CLW Real Estate Services Group, which is now Cassidy Turley. They opened and managed a Tampa office for the Staubach Co. in 2005 and then continued management responsibilities throughout Central Florida with JLL following the company’s acquisition of Staubach in 2008.

They were responsible for a portfolio of more than 5.1 million square feet of office space throughout Central Florida as well the recruitment and management of more than 50 professionals.
