Looks like we should’ve been calling him Air Leonard all this time. Franklin Street managing partner John Leonard—a fixture in Atlanta’s commercial real estate finance scene—is getting a rather unexpected honor this month. John is being inducted into the Upstate New York Basketball Hall of Fame for his undefeated 1986 season at Potsdam State. John played small and power forward, and his team was the Division III Champion that year. So, why didn’t he go pro? “A lot of reasons. I’m a little slower than most,” John says. Nonetheless, John recalls he was offered a chance to play pro in Europe after college, but instead moved forward on his career. “The lure of commercial real estate kept me away from the European courts.”
