Publix will open a new store in the Palencia Commons shopping center in St. Johns County. The grocery chain will take a 45,600-square-foot space last occupied by Food Lion. All the Food Lions in Northeast Florida closed in 2012.
Build-out is expected to begin early next year with opening in early 2018. The grocery signed a 20-year lease.
Franklin Street, which handles leasing for the center, has also added two other new tenants: Workout Anytime, a 4,500-square-foot fitness facility, and Broad River Tavern, a 3,600-square-foot restaurant. Opening times have not been announced. Another 16,800 square feet of new, available space will be added to the center.
Palencia Commons, just south of International Golf Parkway on U.S. 1, opened in 2008. With the addition of Publix, the center will be 90 percent occupied, not counting the new space.
