Ask the Expert: What major trends are impacting the retail market in Atlanta?
“Our landlords are embracing non-traditional retail tenants, especially schools. We have recently completed two deals with an autism school that is expanding in Atlanta. The tenant originally focused on medical buildings but could not find first floor space with ample parking that met their needs. They went into a former Party City in one center and a former Grand Harbor Import space in another. Luckily, at this center we did not require waivers from any of the other tenants. However, when we have required tenant consent they seem to welcome schools, so long as parking can be managed and does not negatively impact the shopping experience for other patrons.”
